3 down, 3 to go in Evans Wimbledon quest

Denied a Wimbledon wild card by the All-England Club in the wake of his now-completed one-year suspension for a positive cocaine test, former top-50 Brit Dan Evans is trying to earn his way in.

Evans won three matches at a pre-qualifying event Thursday and Friday on a cricket pitch at Southlands College, a stone’s throw from the qualifying venue at Roehampton.

And with that, the 28-year-old earned a wild card into the qualifying, which begins Monday.

“There is no frustration (at being here], just happiness to be back playing,” he told the Times of London.
